When making soap from scratch there is no such thing as a "no lye" recipe. This is the same for both cold process and hot process soap making. The lye we use for soap making is a household kitchen chemical. However, it is a very volatile caustic chemical that must be treated with respect. A little bit of pre-planing is required when you work with lye.  Setting up your environment before you make your lye water will make all the difference in safety. Once you adopt a few easy habits, your project will be safe, and we are ready to move on to the next step.
